It is a warm night with rain just about to fall. The birds can not decide whether to fly away into the distance or stay in a shelter in the nest. Humidity remains thick in a dense watery shell. Sirens cease, vehicles disappear, and people enter their homes to begin a long night routine inside.

It is a weeknight and the start of a workweek. The runner laces up shoes and enters the atmosphere of thought and grit. Emotional baggage is carried by the runner as the runner enters a path he does not recognize. He is filled with determination to keep running along with the unknown path and does not stop to examine himself. The runner runs until the path becomes dirt. A cold mist soothes his skin but is uncomfortable enough to wake him from the trance of being lost. The land he is now on is not controlled by a path, but a vast landscape.

Indoor lights flash on, then off to signal bedtime routines. All the while, the runner holds firm to the distance goal and keeps pace. The way forward is to the self. The character is steadily awaiting the time to move forward and get on with the task at hand. Which way is the way forward and how does the adventure at hand change the perspective of the adventurer? What will be the prize? Only the race will tell.
