A Time to Learn and Be a Father

I will not act like I know all life’s lessons and skills. My perception of life as I grow older tends to give me false hope, but then again surprises me. People have stories to tell and experiences to share. As Rich Roll states, “There are prophets walking among us.” All it takes is time to listen.

There is much to learn, contribute, and transcend in the world. There are ways to be in the world that is interesting, fun, life-giving, tumultuous, free, and unhindered. How we interface with the world and people is important. There is self-doubt about what we have to contribute, but you are one that is the only one. There are diamonds that people tell and experience that need to be noticed.

As a new father, my influence with writing is not as important. I am trying to keep my daughter alive and well at the moment. My thoughts are focused on her and my writing headspace shrinks because I am only thinking about my daughter’s next playtime. The newborn stage is a new opportunity to show up and be more of my true self. I have suffered through imposter syndrome ever since she was born, but I am trying to take the necessary steps to put her on a path of authenticity and growth as I continue to work out my human skin.

Sage advice from fathers including my own will guide me on the right path. I recently read in The Myth or Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture by Dr. Gábor Mate — Trauma is multi generational and must be dealt with before passing it on to your offspring. I hope to see this journey into fatherhood as a way to heal any trauma that arises and provide a safe home for my daughter to be.

A new season helps you to see all the possibilities and gifts of that time. This is a time to be proactive in how to relate to my daughter and show up for her.
